The GGU team of 2010-2011 raised funds to send the 100 girls from the SEGA School in Morogoro (Central Tanzania) to see the ocean for the first time in their lives. They also visited national parks on the Coast. Below, photos of their adventure. Early morning, Friday 22 July, the Form 2 girls started out on their overnight adventure to Tanga on the north-east coast of Tanzania. Their excitement grew as the journey unfolded and the girls were shown many sights and given interesting facts from the well informed driver/guide. We stopped at Chalinze for chai (morning tea) and witnessed the intense bustle of a very large bus stop over. One task set for the girls was to observe and record the impact of man on the environment. By the completion of the trip, the girls’ understanding and their lists were long and detailed. Arriving in Tanga and having settled into accommodation they headed to the picturesque beach….Their excitement could hardly be contained. THIS was what they had been waiting for!! After an exciting night, eating, chatting, watching and listening to music and settling into the dorms of the guest house, the girls visited Amboni Caves. This was another new and educational experience. Throughout the exploration of the vast cave network, the guide patiently spent time educating the girls on its history and geography. He supported his explanations by showing the girls many varied and fascinating natural structures. This was an exciting adventure for the SEGA girls. Returning to Morogoro on the bus the girls quietly reflected on their journey and the many new experiences they had eagerly encountered.

A letter from SEGA:
Together the girls waded in to knee deep water, joined hands in a circle, reinacted a dance they had learned in Life skills and then….. they all fell into the water together. They were so happy and stayed in the ocean until the sunset!!
