ANNE WELLS is a social entrepreneur with a long history living, working and studying in Tanzania, East Africa. She was a student at the Mweka College of African Wildlife Management in 1991; she traveled extensively throughout the Northern District in 1994; and she returned in 2008 with her husband David to scout humanitarian groups for whom she could mobilize support. Anne's passion for Africa and for mobilizing people around the globe to impact positive change led to the creation of UNITE The World With Africa, LLC. She ran her first humanitarian outreach tour in 2009, and recently completed her second tour in July 2010.
In addition to her work in Africa, Wells is a seasoned marketing and communications professional with more than 12 years working with corporations and not-for-profits -- including Safe Water Network in Westport, CT; The Center of Contemporary Arts in St. Louis; and Haystack Toys in St. Louis. Wells is also a successful journalist and author, having worked as a writer and editor for a number of national magazines -- including BabyTalk and Parenting Magazines -- and she is also the author and publisher of two non-fiction titles:
Raising Babies and
Raising Kids in St. Louis.
Wells received her BA in Anthropology from Kenyon College in 1993 (and was awarded the Margaret Mead Award!) and attended the University of California at Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism in 1995/1996.
Wells is a wife and mother of three girls -- ages 5, 7 and 9. She lives with her family in Connecticut. For more information, email
